Making outdoor spaces practical as well as good-looking
Hard landscaping can completely change how a garden or outdoor space works. From retaining walls and patios to paths, steps and other structural landscaping, Bluebells Groundworks carries out the groundwork and construction needed to create practical outdoor spaces across Kent and East Sussex.
Retaining walls
Changes in ground level can create problems if they’re not properly supported. A retaining wall can help hold back soil and create usable levels within a garden or site. The correct solution depends on the height, ground conditions, drainage, access and the forces acting on the wall. We’ve worked on retaining projects ranging from garden landscaping through to more involved ground retention work. One previous project involved stabilising a collapsing pond bank using gabion baskets, including a new concrete footing, membrane and drainage considerations.
Patios and paths
A new patio or pathway needs more than a finished surface. The ground underneath needs to be excavated and prepared correctly so the finished area has the support it needs. We can prepare and construct:
- Patios
- Garden paths
- Paved areas
- Steps
- Gravel areas
- Edging
- Concrete bases
- Other hard landscaping features
Every site is different. Ground conditions, access, levels and drainage all need to be considered before work starts.
Making the most of different levels
Sloping gardens and changes in level can sometimes be a challenge, but they can also create opportunities. With the right excavation, retaining and landscaping, different levels can be turned into usable areas rather than simply trying to flatten everything.
Practical groundwork with a finished result
Our background is in groundworks, so we always consider what’s happening underneath the finished landscaping. That means thinking about levels, drainage, foundations and ground conditions as well as the appearance of the finished space.
